Alan Wake is finally emerging from the shadows…
In the five years since the game was first unveiled, there’s been an abnormal amount of anxiety and mystery surrounding it. Rumors have swelled online about the game’s lengthy development cycle, with some wondering whether it would ever see the light of day. But those years spent cloaked in secrecy only added to its allure.

Five years is also a lot of time to change. The story of horror novelist Alan Wake has seen enough edits, alterations, and rewrites to make our brains hurt. Allow us to clear things up: You are Alan Wake. In a last-ditch effort to keep your severely strained marriage afloat, you and your wife, Alice, make your way to a lakeside retreat in the small town of Bright Falls. Your makeshift vacation also doubles as an attempt to escape a crippling case of writer’s block. And as if you didn’t have enough trouble already, Alice’s shrieking shortly after your arrival leads you to discover what can only be assumed as her murdered corpse in the lake. You promptly black out…

As you regain consciousness in the mountains on the outskirts of Bright Falls, you learn that you’ve been in a car accident. With no idea how you ended up in the wreck or if Alice is okay, it dawns you on that it’s been seven days since you’ve arrived at your lakeside cottage. Armed only with a flashlight, you head toward the town seeking answers. What you find makes the murder and marital issues seem like a nursery rhyme.
